Privacy Policy

CreditUnionDirectory.ca is an independent Canadian website providing informational comparisons of Canadian credit unions. We are not a financial institution, mortgage broker, or deposit broker. For privacy inquiries, contact us at the address in the Contact section.

Information you provide. We do not currently offer user accounts or contact forms. If you email us directly, we receive your email address and message content, used solely to respond.

Information collected automatically. We use Google Analytics 4 to record standard web analytics (browser type, approximate location, pages viewed, session duration, referring source, device type). We also log anonymous usage events on our own servers, such as searches performed, profiles viewed, and tools used, to understand which features are working. IP addresses are hashed (SHA-256) before storage; we do not retain raw IPs.

We use cookies and browser storage to operate the site and understand aggregate visitor behaviour.

You can control cookies through your browser settings. Blocking analytics cookies does not affect your ability to use the site.

We use Google Analytics 4 to collect aggregated data about how visitors use the site. GA4 loads by default and uses cookies to recognise returning visitors and measure session activity. You can opt out at any time through Manage preferences in our cookie banner; once you opt out, GA stops loading on subsequent page views and existing GA cookies are removed. We do not use Analytics for advertising or remarketing, and we do not share Analytics data with third parties. Google does not retain IP addresses for Google Analytics 4 by default. Data is processed by Google LLC on servers that may be located outside Canada. You may further opt out at any time using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

We use collected information to operate the site, understand aggregate usage, diagnose technical issues, detect abusive traffic, and respond to direct inquiries. We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information.

We do not sell your personal information. We may share it only in these circumstances:

• Service providers: Google LLC processes analytics data on our behalf under contractual data protection terms.
• Legal requirements: If required by law, regulation, or enforceable government request.
• Protection of rights: Where necessary to prevent fraud or protect user safety.

Our website and database are hosted on third-party cloud infrastructure that may be located outside Canada, including in the United States. As a result, data collected through this site may be stored or processed outside your province of residence and may be subject to the laws of the country where it is held.

Our site links to credit union websites and other third-party resources. This Privacy Policy does not apply once you leave our site. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of third-party sites.

• Google Analytics data is retained for up to 14 months and then automatically deleted.
• Anonymous usage events on our own servers are retained for trend analysis. Records older than 24 months are periodically purged or aggregated.
• Email correspondence is retained as long as needed to respond, then deleted or anonymized.
• Server access logs are retained for up to 90 days for security and diagnostic purposes.

Under PIPEDA and applicable provincial privacy law, you may request access to, or correction of, personal information we hold about you. You may also withdraw consent to analytics through your browser settings or the Google Analytics opt-out tool. Complaints may be directed to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada at priv.gc.ca. We respond to privacy requests within 30 days.

Quebec's Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector (Law 25) provides additional rights including the right to data portability and de-indexation of personal information. Quebec residents may also file complaints with the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec at cai.gouv.qc.ca.

This site is intended for adults researching financial products. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe we have done so, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

We may update this policy periodically. When we do, we update the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the site following any changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
